The Center for Workers’ Rights seeks an attorney for immediate hire. Founded in 2014, the Center for Workers’ Rights’ mission is to create a community where workers are respected and treated with dignity and respect. To bring that vision into reality, we provide legal representation to low-wage workers, advocate for initiatives to advance workers’ rights, and promote worker education, activism, and leadership in the greater Sacramento area. The Staff Attorney will provide free, individualized legal advice and representation to low-wage workers throughout California; pursue targeted impact and law reform to solidify and expand legal worker protections, and civil rights; Develop and strengthen relationships with worker centers and other community partners to provide legal education, outreach, and direct legal services.

Responsibilities:

• Supervision of the Workers’ Rights clinic, and law student volunteers.
• Directing Wage Claim clinic, and managing wage theft claims.
• Engage in administrative advocacy; representing CWR in coalitions, and meetings with State agencies.
• Negotiations at the local, State, and Federal levels, with opportunities to participate in litigation on systemic legal violations and appeals of administrative cases
• Representation of low-wage workers in administrative agency hearings.
• Assist and coordinate with other CWR staff on community outreach, know your rights trainings, and drafting up-to-date materials.

Desired Qualification:

• The position requires California Bar membership
• One to five years of employment law or public interest experience in a related field preferred.
• Candidates must demonstrate experience engaging with impacted communities and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Proficiency in Spanish, or other commonly spoken language, is strongly preferred.
• Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and changes in law.
• Desire and ability to train new advocates.
• Strong interpersonal skills and organizational abilities regardless of communication method.

The position reports to the Executive Director. This position is based in Sacramento and will require some in-person work. Up to date vaccination records are required.

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience. Salary range is from $67,000-$80,000. This is a full-time, exempt position and is eligible for healthcare benefits.
