District Council 37, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, Office of the General Counsel, has two (2) positions available for Assistant General Counsel. The General Counsel’s Office handles all job-related legal matters on behalf of union members, and is Counsel to District Council 37, its elected officials, affiliated locals and the Municipal Labor Committee. Typical cases include arbitrations, disciplinary actions, improper and unfair labor practices, representation proceedings, Taylor Law & NLRB hearings, unemployment insurance appeals and other types of administrative proceedings, in addition to CPLR Article 75 and 78 proceedings and general litigation in state and federal courts. Heavy client contact.

Applicants must be admitted to practice in the State of New York.

Should be a self-starter, exercise good judgment, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, be able to follow through on assignments, handle own case load, and work well under pressure; litigation skills with emphasis on labor and public employment law are preferred. Recently admitted candidates are encouraged to apply.

Salary range: $84,501 - $117,749
