The Office of the General Counsel of Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ
has an opening for a Law Fellow starting in August or September 2025. This is a full-time, one
to two year position based in Local 32BJ’s New York City office, with an annual salary of
approximately $96,997 and comes with excellent benefits, including employer-paid health,
dental and vison plans for full-time employees and their qualified dependents, a pension plan,
and generous paid time off.

Local 32BJ is a progressive and dynamic labor organization. Our 175,000 members,
from dozens of countries all over the world, include many first generation immigrants, as well as
those with long histories in the United States. Our members include janitors, security officers,
apartment building workers, airport workers, and food service employees, primarily on the
eastern seaboard. While each fellowship experience varies according to the work of the
department, fellows can expect to be involved in a range of matters relating to new organizing,
the advancement of workers’ rights, bargaining, and the representation of Union members. The
fellow will work on matters before the National Labor Relations Board and in federal and state
court, will present arbitration cases, and will work directly with Union staff and members.

Qualifications: Recent law graduates, judicial clerks, and third-year law students are
welcome to apply. Applicants should have excellent research and writing skills, a demonstrated
commitment to workers’ rights, labor and employment coursework in law school, and a desire to
practice union-side labor law. Admission to the New York Bar, or an intention to sit for the New
York bar exam in the Summer of 2025 is required. Some travel may be required.
Local 32BJ is an inclusive and diverse organization, committed to advocating for social,
racial and economic justice. We promote diversity and strongly encourage applications from
people who believe in our mission. We strongly encourage women, first-generation college
graduates, and people of color to apply. Please send a cover letter, resume, writing sample,
references and law school transcript to HR@seiu32bj.org. Please use “Law Fellow” in the
subject line of your email. Application reviews will begin immediately and applications will be
accepted until November 15, 2024.
