Law Fellow
Based in New York City, NY
The Office of the General Counsel of Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ has an opening for a Law Fellow starting in August or September 2027. This is a full-time, 1–2-year position based in Local 32BJ’s New York City Headquarters.
About Us
Local 32BJ is a progressive and dynamic labor organization. Our 185,000 members, from dozens of countries all over the world, include many first-generation immigrants, as well as those with long histories in the United States. Our members include janitors, security officers, apartment building workers, airport workers, and food service employees, primarily on the eastern seaboard.
Position Overview
While each fellowship experience varies according to the work of the department, fellows can expect to be involved in a range of matters relating to new organizing, the advancement of workers’ rights, bargaining, and the representation of Union members. The fellow will work on matters before the National Labor Relations Board and in federal and state courts, will present arbitration cases, and will work directly with Union staff and members. Occasional travel may be required.
Qualifications
- Recent law graduates, judicial clerks, and third-year law students are welcome to apply.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights, labor and employment coursework in law school.
- Desire to practice union-side labor law.
- Admission to the New York Bar, or an intention to sit for the New York bar exam in the Summer of 2027 is required.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary for this role is $99,274. 32BJ offers a generous benefits package that includes full employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan (for full-time employees and their qualified dependents). 32BJ offers paid time off including Four weeks’ vacation, eleven holidays, twelve sick days and four personal days. The union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
