UNITE HERE Local 11 is looking for motivated students with an interest in movement lawyering and labor law to serve as summer law clerks for 2025. Local 11 is a progressive, movement-oriented labor union representing approximately 32,000 hotel and food service workers throughout Southern California and Arizona. Reflecting the needs of its membership, the union is at the forefront of efforts to defend the rights of immigrants, people of color, and women in the workplace and in the political sphere. 

Local 11 offers students the opportunity to gain a wide range of legal experience. In recent summers, for example, law clerks have worked on investigating and filing federal unfair labor practice charges, writing briefs for labor arbitrations, analyzing data to evaluate potential race discrimination claims, and enforcing newly won return-to-work laws for workers laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic. We strongly encourage applications from Black, Latinx, and indigenous persons and other people of color; from persons identifying as LBGTQ+; and from persons with disabilities. Spanish proficiency or fluency is strongly preferred. Work may be done hybrid, with some weekly in-person days in Los Angeles. Students will be supervised by staff attorneys.
