The Washington-Baltimore News Guild (WBNG) is the union for more than 3,000 news, information, nonprofit, and labor-organization workers in the mid-Atlantic and beyond. We are one of the largest locals of The NewsGuild-CWA (TNG-CWA)—the largest union of communications employees in North America—and one of the sectors of the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Together, we hold our employers accountable and ensure that our workplaces reflect our values, which include ensuring everyone is free from harassment and retaliation, earns equal pay for equal work and has a voice in their workplace.

We are seeking a labor lawyer to join our legal department as Assistant to the General Counsel (AGC). Our Local represents a diverse group of more than 80 units and is highly active in litigation, with multiple disputes in arbitration and before the National Labor Relations Board. Under the supervision of the General Counsel, the AGC will assist units with collective bargaining and organizing campaigns, file and represent the Guild in unfair labor practice charges, arbitrate disputes, conduct legal research, and provide strategic advice on a wide range of labor and employment issues.

Qualified applicants should be graduates of an ABA-accredited law school who have passed the bar, have 1–3 years of legal experience working for or representing labor unions, and demonstrate a commitment to the labor movement. Strong writing and oral advocacy skills are essential, along with a strategic mindset and the ability to analyze complex problems requiring the integration of legal tools and other strategies. The AGC should be a team player who contributes to a collegial work environment, engages effectively with a diverse membership, handles a heavy caseload, and manages conflicts and stressful situations with sound judgment and empathy. They should be motivated to learn from and reflect on both wins and setbacks, and to continually improve their practice. The candidate will be required to represent our members in virtual and in-person arbitration hearings, mediation sessions, and NLRB proceedings in Washington, DC, and across the country, and be available to travel as needed.

Salary is $110,000, along with a competitive benefits package that includes health insurance, a retirement plan, and generous vacation and holiday leave. The position is expected to begin in October 2026.

Please send cover letter and resume by June 16, 2026, to: Amos Laor, WBNG General Counsel at alaor@wbng.org
