The Oldham Law Office, LLC in Beaverton, Oregon (a suburb of Portland) is hiring an attorney. We are a small, but growing, labor and employment firm. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working environment. Our clients are often from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and we value diversity and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.
Ideal candidates will have 2-7 years of experience as a labor attorney and some experience negotiating contracts and handling hearings, but we welcome applications from other plaintiff-side employment or civil rights attorneys so long as they have a demonstrable commitment to the labor movement. If the attorney is a newer attorney, having a background as a union organizer, representative or other union-adjacent experience is helpful.
We represent public and private sector unions in all aspects of labor relations, including:
- prosecuting grievance and interest arbitration cases before arbitrators,
- litigating unfair labor practice and representation cases before the NLRB and state agencies in Oregon and other states,
- representing unions in federal and state court,
- representing unions in appeals,
- advising unions during collective bargaining with employers or serving as the chief negotiator for clients,
- conducting trainings for union leaders and representatives,
- and providing general counsel advice to unions and union entities (JATCs) on a wide variety of topics, including HR issues, compliance, and contract issues
In addition, we represent licensees before licensing boards and also handle traditional plaintiff’s employment litigation on behalf of whistleblowers and employees who have experienced discrimination or have other compelling facts in their favor. A significant part of our practice is litigation before agencies/boards, or in the courts.
Candidates should have a strong work history, good academic credentials, and excellent oral and written communication skills. They should have work references that support their ability to work independently and to be accountable for their projects and time. Candidates must be professional, comfortable, and appropriate working with clients of all backgrounds, and be able to exercise independent judgment while knowing when to seek guidance. We have a hybrid work environment with a traditional office and highly skilled paralegal support, but partial to full remote office work (with the exception of meetings) is acceptable and encouraged. Associates are expected to work autonomously and to balance a number of different matters without a high degree of supervision. It is important that candidates be self-starters and are able to handle stressful situations. Newer attorneys do shadow more experienced attorneys to learn the ropes.
Associates must be licensed in Oregon or have the ability to obtain admission by reciprocity in Oregon within six months of hire. Because we have clients in different parts of Oregon and other states, candidates must be willing to travel for work when needed. Such travel would generally occur with notice far in advance.
Salary is competitive but depends on your level of experience. There are opportunities for growth. Benefits include excellent medical/dental/vision insurance, paid time off, and a retirement plan. To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to Sheryl Anderson, our office manager and paralegal, at sheryl@oldhamlawoffice.com.
We will accept applications until the position is filled, but to ensure that you receive consideration, please submit your application by February 28, 2026.
